I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we’d found a hedgehog family in our polytunnel – mum and an unknown number of tiny babies living under one of the sheets of cardboard we put down to kill off the weeds. Plans to replace the compost in there have been put on hold while the polytunnel temporarily becomes a hedgehog sanctuary.

Here’s the first photo I took of them suckling from mum.

And here they are today!

There appear to be four babies. They’re much bigger and livelier than they were and I expect they’ll be pottering around on their own soon. I hope they’ll be off before summer really starts as I’m worried they might get cooked in our polytunnel. It gets to well over 40 degrees Celsius on very sunny days… They’ll be hedgehots rather than hedgehogs!
